LAKE EFFECT Music Festival

Bostwick Lake Congregational Church is happy to be aligned with Special Olympics of West MI, Area 11. The local church is directing all their fundraising efforts from the popular music festival LAKE EFFECT to support Special Olympics, who provide year round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities and giving them the ability to demonstrate courage and experience joy. LAKE EFFECT: A Festival of Music presents family friendly classic and current hit music by the high energy band Round Brown Suitcase from 12:30 to 3:30 on Sunday August 9th, 2015. Round Brown Suitcase is a high energy cover band guaranteed to keep your party rolling! They play classic favorites the way you remember them along with current hits that will entertain young and old alike. Round Brown Suitcase features great lead vocals and harmonies, faithful recreations of guitar lines and synth parts, and danceable groves. The band currently performs for corporate and public events. Check out one of their performances locally and visit their website at roundbrownsuitcase.com. Back for its 6th year, LAKE EFFECT has raised funds for Habitat for Humanity and North Kent Community Services in the past. The event itself is free, but all donations and proceeds from food sales go to benefit Special Olympics of West MI, Area 11. Food sales begin at noon and continue until 3:30. The music runs from 12:30 to 3:30 rain or shine. There will be tents and trees for shade. Bring your own lawn chair. Free Parking.

10th Annual Special Olympics Duffers Association Classic

The 10th Annual SODA (Special Olympics Duffers Association) will be held on Friday, August 14th, 2015. This annual event raises money for Special Olympics Michigan athletes. Fee includes green fee, cart, lunch, dinner and player bag. There will be a silent auction as well as raffles and games. There are several sponsorship opportunities available as well. The mission of Special Olympics Michigan is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities at no cost to the athletes. Thousands of Michigan volunteers contribute their time, energy and expertise to make the Special Olympics Michigan program a reality. Volunteers serve as coaches, sports officials, committee members, on-site volunteers at competitions, and in many other capacities. The Munising Community Run for Law Enforcement Torch Run will happen on September 12, 2015. This is a run/walk event starting at Anytime Fitness, 601 W. Munising Ave. Munising, MI 49862 (tours of the gym will be available). The route is a scenic 2.5 miles through Munising. All participants will end at Shooters Firehouse Lounge at noon where Fire Brick Oven Pizza's will be available to purchase, provided by The Cooking Carberrys. The two main goals of the Law Enforcement Torch Run® are raise funds and to create awareness for the athletes who participate in Special Olympics Michigan. The Allegan Community Run for Law Enforcement Torch Run will take place on September 12th. This is a 3.1 mile run starting at Courthouse Square and ending at the Hillsdale County ISD - Greenfield School. Registration begins at 3:00 p.m. The registration includes a dri fit t-shirt. 2015 Truck Convoy -- North Carolina

We will be hosting the 2015 Truck Convoy in celebration of the truck industry and its support of Special Olympics. It is a unique one-day celebration in which law enforcement makes special dispensation and escorts a convoy of trucks up to 30 miles through cities and towns of North Carolina.

Missouri State Outdoor Games

The 2015 State Outdoor Games will be held in Fort Jefferson City, Missouri from March 27-29. Competition will begin at 8 a.m. on September 25th and go until 5 p.m. on March 27th. Inspire Greatness Gala

Special Olympics Michigan is hosting its fifth annual Inspire Greatness Gala, on October 9, 2015 to raise funds in support of our programs and athletes. With Lila Lazarus as the emcee and the historic Westin Book Cadillac hotel as the venue, our Inspire Greatness Gala is the organization's signature event. It is held in southeast Michigan which has the largest athlete population served in all of Michigan. The Special Olympics Movement can ultimately transform communities by inspiring people throughout the world to open their minds, to accept and include people with intellectual disabilities, and thereby celebrate differences among all people, in the context of the greater similarities we all share. Tickets are $200/individual, $350/couple or $2,000/table.
