European Golf Tournament Records Highest Participation Ever

Highest Participation

38  athletes  and  Unified  partners  from  nine countries gathered in Bludenz, Austria from June 21st to 24th to celebrate the 2012 Special Olympics European Golf Tournament.

Recording the highest participation ever, Special Olympics golfers travelled from Austria, Russia, Sweden, Denmark, Great Britain, Switzerland, Germany, Ireland and Poland to compete in traditional and Unified Golf. Bludenz-Graz Golf Club provided a magnificent backdrop to the competitions and its golf club members offered fantastic support to the success of the event.

Priority Sport

"Golf, along with Volleyball, Tennis and Alpine Skiing, is a priority sport for us in 2012-2013 in terms of developing quality competitions and recruiting more athletes, so we are delighted with the high participation" said Mary Davis, President of Special Olympics Europe Eurasia. "Congratulations goes to Heinrich Olsen, Sports Director at Special Olympics Austria and his staff in the Voralberg Region for arranging such a professional, memorable and enjoyable event for our athletes and partners. Special Olympics never happens alone and a big thanks goes to the support from the local Government, the city of Bludenz and Caritas".

This is the fourth European tournament, the Special Olympics team in Austria have organisied since 2008 since hosting regional competitions in 11-a-side football, floorball and alpine skiing. No other National Programme in Europe Eurasia has hosted as many European tournaments.
