Speed Skating today is a lifetime fitness sport for individuals of all ages. Speed Skating provides both cardiovascular and aerobic benefits as well as improving muscle strength, balance, and coordination. Today, the sport can be enjoyed year round with indoor skating facilities found throughout the world. Probably the BEST type of Speed Skating is that which is done outdoors, challenging the skater against the elements of nature that try to test the skater's skill, fatigue and desire to race the wind. As a recreational and competition sport, Ice Speed Skating offers the potential for social integration for both training and competition experiences within multi-level Special Olympics competition experiences as well as training and competition experiences through this sport's National Governing Body.

The greatest achievement of Ruben Yzarra

By VICTOR RAMON HERNANDEZ VERA

A young man born in 1978 and away from his family, he lived with a sister in the state Falcon. He approached me in the workplace with some skates and asked if he could go skating on the tracks.View Story A young man born in 1978 and away from his family, he lived with a sister in the state Falcon. He approached me in the workplace with some skates and asked if he could go skating on the tracks, and i told that there was no problem. After seeing him skate i told I would gladly help with his desire to skate and that was in 2009. Gradually, between bumps and blunders as in various sports, who had rejected him because of his condition, we disclose that he has intellectual disability, and that's why some coaches do no pay attention to him. Today after many setbacks and events with resources collected by ourselves (Ruben and I Victor Hernandez) have observed our potential as equal. And what I see as an entire biopsychosocial development deserves human respect. I can confidently say "Ruben Dario Gonzalez Yzarra, you are an athlete chosen by Venezuela to go to Los Angeles 2015.

About VICTOR RAMON HERNANDEZ VERA:I have been skating since i was 16 years old. I am 36, and live in Northern Venezuela with much love for the skating. Rory en la pista de patinaje

People who see Rory Kinane at the skating rink think he’s a natural on the ice -- but it didn’t start out that way. His coach remembers how Rory would try to run on the ice, like he was running a regular road race.
