Golfers Find a World of Competition in Denmark

By Suzanne Coogan

The winner of the Special Olympics World Golf Cup, Troels Højbjerre from Denmark and his caddie Jørgen Krogh.

Twenty-one skilled golfers from eight countries competed for the Golf World Cup at one of Denmark's oldest golf courses, the Helsingor Golf Club. Special Olympics always matches players of similar abilities for competitions, but these 21 players were so good that it took a world invitational to give them the thrilling play they all love.View Story Twenty-one skilled golfers from eight countries competed for the first Special Olympics World Golf Cup at one of Denmark's oldest golf courses, the Helsingor Golf Club. Special Olympics always matches players of similar abilities for competitions, but these 21 players were so good that it took a world invitational to give them all the thrilling play they love. When the final round started, the fight for the Cup was between three athletes from three different continents: Scott Rohrer from the United States, Tom Lugg from South Africa and Denmark's Troels Hoejbjerre. Both Troels and Scott had some good rounds before the final day and they tied for first place 4 strokes ahead of Tom Lugg. The final round started tough for Scott with a drive out of bounds and a frustrating triple bogey but he kept on fighting. He could soon feel that silver medal being threatened from behind by a very focused Tom Lugg. Tom was playing well especially on the back nine which he played in par. With four holes to go Troels was still up with five strokes but 3 bogeys by Troels and pars from Tom made it a very exciting finish. Tom did his best with one more par but Troels Højbjerre was victorious in the end in front of a very enthusiastic home crowd.

Mark played golf

By Mark David Setzer

My name is Mark Setzer and I am 41 years old today. I played golf in New Jersey at the National Golf Tournament in Newark, NJ.View Story My name is Mark Setzer and I am 41 years old today. I played golf in New Jersey at the National Golf Tournament in Newark, NJ. I really had a great time there, and I would like to thank my parents, David and Barbara Setzer, Auntie and Uncle Jerry who came to see me that Monday to visit and head off to my hole. I really want to thank everybody who helped us get there safely and back, wonderful trips, and very well done. I came in 3rd place with a total of 187, 57 on the first day, 64, on the second day and the last day on Wednesday June 21st, 67. Great weather!

About Mark David Setzer:I am a resident at the Baddour Memorial Center in Senatobia, MS. I work on campus and work with Fedex running high speed printers and scanning airbills that goes all over the world. I would like to personally thank Shannon Adams, and Joann Drummright who really helped me move to level 4 to Level 5 which is 18 holes and I am looking forward to go to Rockvale, TN on July 27th and 28th and play golf. Shannon Adams is a golfer herself, and she is a great friend of the Baddour Center, she works very hard and she has great personality and Joann who works extremley hard getting their athletes to their carts on time. Well done to Shannon and Joann. I wish we had more people at the Baddour Center to learn golf, and it is fun once you get used to it.
