Michael Meenan

Michael Meenan, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

As Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Michael Meenan is responsible for all Finance and Accounting functions.  He leads a professional financial services team in the implementation of financial planning, programs, and policies.  Mr. Meenan promotes Special Olympic's system of robust internal controls, provides oversight of the organization's fiscal compliance with regulatory and governing bodies, and directs critical financial analysis, business process improvement, and decision support.

Mr. Meenan has over 30 years of professional experience supporting nonprofit organizations. Prior to joining Special Olympics, he was Vice President, Finance & Administration and Treasurer for Lutheran World Relief (LWR), where he improved internal controls and work processes, led systems development, and enhanced decision support.  He also served as Senior Director, International Services Finance for the American Red Cross, directing financial operations for ARC's Tsunami Recovery Program and other international programs.  Earlier in his career, Mr. Meenan led overseas accounting, finance, and compliance operations for various international relief and development organizations including Catholic Relief Services, The Carter Center, and Save the Children. 

Mr. Meenan began his career as a Peace Corps volunteer in Lesotho, helping build the management capacity of small business owners.  He holds a BBA in Economics and Accounting from Loyola University of Chicago and an MBA from the University of Notre Dame Mendoza College of Business.  He is a licensed CPA in Maryland, and a member of InsideNGO's Finance Advisory Council.
