Richard S. Allen

As Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Rick Allen is responsible for the strategy and full range of financial functions for Special Olympics, including accounting operations, cash management, planning, financial policies and compliance with regulatory and governing entities. 

Allen has an extensive financial and operating background. Prior to joining Special Olympics, he was co-owner, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer of Custom Bottle, Inc., a privately held manufacturer and distributor of packaging products. Previous positions included a partnership in an investment advisory and principal investment company and as Executive Vice President for London Fog Industries.

Allen began his career at GE Capital and was a major contributor to the growth of the Corporate Finance Group, where he became a Managing Director leading the New York City office. He was responsible for investments totaling over $2 billion across many industries.

Over the last several years, Allen has also been involved with Special Olympics. He served on the Board of Directors of Special Olympics Connecticut for more than seven years. During this time Allen served on many committees and held leadership positions as Special Olympics Connecticut’s Chairman of the Finance Committee and Chairman of the Board for 2011-2012. His contributions were recognized in 2012, when he was awarded the Susan Saint James Leadership Award.

Allen is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, where he serves on the Alumni Council of the Economics Department. He lives with his wife, Lori, in Weston, Connecticut. They have three children.
