Green goes for Gold

By Amanda Green Merriman

Larry Green winning gold at the Canada SO Winter Games! "This one's for you dad!"

My brother, Larry Green, is an Alpine Skier for Team Canada for the 2013 Special Olympic Winter games in Korea! This has been his ultimate dream since he first joined SO as a teen. Larry struggled with his mental disabilities for so long but with the help of his doctors, staff, family, friends, and his passion for Special O he found his path, his calling, and the light. Our family has the always skied together and Larry loved it from an early age. Our dad, Don Green, took him yearly the Rockies to tear up the powder. In 2011 Larry won 2 gold and a silver medal in Special Olympics Alberta Winter Games. Sadly our dad passed away soon after but Larry found the strength to keep working even harder in his memory. The following year he won two gold and a bronze at the Special Olympics Canada Winter Games and was soon after named to Team Canada! He inspires so many people with his story and is very proud to be representing his country. GO HARD LARRY!!!

About Amanda Green Merriman: I am known mainly as "Larry's Sister" and bear the title with pride. I have seen Larry go through so may ups and downs and this is by far the greatest moment of his life. I write a blog about him to share his inspiring story and have been his personal publisist! I am also a teacher and mother of Larry's favourite nice and nephew, Ailee and Aidan.
