Sweet recognition for GEICO volunteer leaders

By Katie Botha

Regional AVP, Matt Mitchell with Volunteer Leaders Lorraine Ellison, Nancy Beckman and Regional Public Affairs Manager, Toiya Sosa

Valentines Day was a little sweeter for two GEICO employees who were surprise co-recipients of volunteer leadership awards at a regional ceremony attended by GEICO executives and local dignitaries from government and nonprofit agencies including Special Olympics Virginia. Nancy Beckman and Lorraine Ellison were honored for the role they play in recruiting GEICO volunteers for annual Special Olympics programs and activities in Virginia Beach. Both women acknowledged that they feel great about their volunteer service, but that their work with Special Olympics was not just "nice, but important." According to Nancy, collaborative efforts are in the works with GEICO's regional office in Fredericksburg to expand employee support later this year. In the meantime, Lorraine plans on displaying her award with pride to show her colleagues that volunteerism has it rewards!
