Rainy games didn't dampen spirits
Yesterday, Congressman Eric Cantor (VA-07) braved the rain in Richmond to meet with families and athletes at Special Olympics Virginia's annual Summer Games. Cantor was invited to attend by local mother Traci LaGanke whose four-year-old son Nicholas was slated to participate in the 25-meter fun run before rain cancelled the event.
Before leaving the venue, Cantor summarized his visit saying, "Despite the rain, it was great to see all the parents, volunteers, coaches and fans who make this event possible each year. Special Olympics has a tremendous impact on our community and all those involved. Meeting moms like Traci and her incredible son Nicholas is truly inspiring, and I encourage all Virginians to get involved so we can help more parents and children with special needs."
Athletes who were unable to compete due to weather played games, danced and received free health screenings and treatments at an indoor venue before attending the Closing Ceremony and Victory Dance.
