Special Olympics Forges Ties in Bangladesh

The Prime Minister with the Special Olympics Bangladesh Floor Hockey team.

The Special Olympics Bangladesh Floor Hockey team trained for many months in preparation of the World Games in PyeongChang, South Korea. It was a great moment when they emerged from the Games with a gold medal for their home country! Through engagement with the Prime Minister, Special Olympics Bangladesh has forged ties with several government ministries. Further, she allotted 12 acres of land in Savar to build a sports complex for people with disabilities, to be completed in 3 years. In recognition of their achievements, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina recently welcomed the team to her office to congratulate them and hear their many exciting stories. "The reception we received from Prime Minister Hasina stands to further validate the great representation that our athletes provided to Bangladesh on a global stage. We look forward to empowering our athletes further by working closely with the national government to create more...opportunities for our athletes to excel," said Faruqul Islam, National Director of Special Olympics Bangladesh.
