Celebrating International Women's Day

By Christy White

We here at Special Olympics just celebrated the 6th annual ‘Spread the Word to End the Word’ day on Wednesday, which was fantastic to see so many people using their voices to promote respect and inclusion. This week also marks another important celebration, International Women's Day, on Saturday, 8th March. International Women’s Day celebrates the social, political and economic achievements of women while focusing world attention on areas requiring further action. Inspiring Change is the 2014 theme for this year’s Day. Celebrated for over 100 years, the event is now even a national holiday in several countries around the world, with the emphasis of the campaign focused around the concept of thinking globally and acting locally when it comes to ensuring the future for women is bright, equal, safe and rewarding.
