Fifteen Middle East-North Africa countries competed in the 2015 Special Olympics World Summer games in Los Angeles in nine days of challenging and Inspiring international competitions among thousands of athletes.

The spectacular opening ceremony was held to herald the beginning of the largest sporting event in the world this year and to celebrate the abilities of people with Intellectual disabilities worldwide. Most of the MENA countries arrived in their traditional costumes accompanied by sports stars and celebrities which drew a smile to the athletes’ faces. The excitement was evident from the very first moments of the opening ceremony, held at the historic Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum with the crowds cheering for the delegations as they marched in.

Despite the current harsh situation taking place in most of the region, the region athletes scored numerous medals during 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games, which is least described as a victory.

Also the significance of the MENA region presence was further highlighted by the active participation of Special Olympics MENA Regional President & Managing Director “Ayman Abdel Wahab” as he was a busy bee in LA, touring the different venues and arenas to support the region’s athletes and solve any problems that might come up.
