Fit Family Challenge in Mauritius Awards Fitness Equipment

On Sunday 20 November 2016, Special Olympics Mauritius, in collaboration with Mentally Handicapped Persons Sports Federatio,n held an Awards Ceremony to honor the winners of the Fit Family Challenge 2016 in the Conference Hall of the Ministry of Social Security, Rose Hill.
Special Olympics Mauritius launched a 12-week Fit Families challenge for athletes and their supporters (family members or others) to get active and healthy together. The winning team from Rodrigues Island lost a combined total of 17.9 kilograms, or 40 pounds! The top three teams won stationary bikes and gym equipment. Teams track their success in health and wellness through monthly submitted journals tracking weight, blood pressure, resting heart rate, activity minutes, and nutrition. Over three months, these teams have demonstrated a high sense of determination to lose weight by regularly practising the physical exercise sessions, and adopting a healthy eating culture. All the participants were rewarded for their efforts, and the event was marked by the Lions Club of Curepipe distributing prescription glasses to 50 children with visual impairments. Support for the 200 person event was given by Member of Parliament Hon. Jean Claude Guy Lepoigneur and the Mentally Handicapped Persons.
