Evelyn added that she will be implementing a totally new way of teaching to her athletes as well as continuing to create quality life changing opportunities for people with an intellectual disability in Northern Cape.

We interviewed Grass roots Master Coach, Evelyn Seyoko during the (GRS) Master Coaches training which took place in Edenvale. Evelyn shared with us that she had just been employed at the school where she is currently teaching and never understood what Special Olympics South Africa and Grassroots soccer were about.

Evelyn said, she had never seen any organisations as big as Special Olympics South Africa. Not only does the South Africa Program cater to people with intellectual disabilities but gives all the amazing athletes within the organisation hope and something to live for, throughout all the initiatives provided such as the Grassroots “Skills for life” curriculum.

She emphasized how listening attentively to your athletes is vital for their growth. She continued saying that “as an individual you tend to ignore important factors when athletes approach you with certain issues because you just want to put your point across as an elder”.
