She cannot wait to see what the future holds for her within the organization and is motivated to start a movement that creates life changing opportunities for her athletes.

We interviewed Anja Coetzee, a teacher from Jannie Brink Special School in Kimberly. She was invited to be a part of the Grass Roots “Skillz for life” Coaches training which took place at Love Life centre, Kimberly. The training is put on by Special Olympics South Africa.

Anja shared that being a part of the training helped introduce her to new ways to make changes in the lives of her learners and around her community.

Anja wants individuals with an intellectual disability to be treated fairly and equally in the community and to be constantly reminded of the importance of a healthy lifestyle.

She’s excited to use the skills for life curriculum because it’s very informative and will be vital when she teaches her athletes on HIV and AIDS, as well as how to be a strong support structure for the athletes.
