Special Olympics in the Eastern Cape was recently given an enormous boost by the training of 56 coaches in partnership with the Eastern Cape Department of Education.

The provincial coaches training included General Orientation in Special Olympics, coaches training, Unified Sports and Fitness training. The fitness training was part of our new fitness program for which a new curriculum has been developed.

The training took place in East London at the Baysville Special School and the Khayalethu Special School. The practical part of the training focused on Bocce with athletes 15 athletes from Fundukwazi Training Centre.

The Eastern Cape Department of Education assisted with the transport of coaches and catering for the week. Thank you to Mr Mtshengu for accessing the resources to run the training from his department.

The training was co-facilitated by SOSA Sports and Initiatives Coordinator Wanga Manyala, Provincial Coordinator, Phila Mgole and Athlete Leader, Banele Makhonco.
