Athlete Health Corner: Meet Danny, a Health Promotion Story

My name is Danny Grau. I am a Special Olympics athlete from SOMD who has been active in Special Olympics for 17 years and competes in: horseback riding, softball, basketball, snowshoeing, swimming and soccer.

About a year ago, I was hospitalized with pneumonia and High Cholesterol. It was then, when I decided to exercise and eat healthier. I was also inspired by my participation in the Healthy Athletes Health Promotion program. Healthy Athletes events are fun and I participate in Opening Eyes, Healthy Hearing and Special Smiles.

I enjoy: lifting weights, treadmill riding, swimming and attending the gym, I also did a lot of exercise, eating and taking in more proteins, fruits and veggies. I have lost over 60lbs.

‘I feel pretty good, feeling much better about myself since I’ve made some healthy lifestyle changes about being and feeling healthy.
