The world of sports journalism was reminded of the power and importance of the Special Olympics movement at a recent media conference in South Korea. 200 sports journalists from around the world gathered for the 80th International Sports Press Association (AIPS), which was held in the cities of Seoul and PyeongChang.

AIPS has been a global impact partner of Special Olympics since 2013 and helps to generate awareness of the movement around the world. At the World Winter Games in Austria in March, Special Olympics welcomed 14 AIPS Young Reporters.

The journalists covered all aspects of the Games and generated a large volume of news stories, many of which were also published by external national media, as well as being circulated globally via AIPS channels. Special Olympics delivered a presentation to the gathered journalists. Speaking at the Congress, AIPS President Gianni Merlo said the association remains committed to helping to spread the Special Olympics story as widely as possible.
