Belgians Prepare for Special Olympics Europe Summer Games 2014

By Kris Cuppens

Referee Clinic

On Friday 29th and Saturday 30th of November Special Olympics Belgium held their Unified Basketball test case for the Special Olympics Europe Summer Games 2014. The main goal of those 2 days was to train our referees and game officials to be ready for the Games. On Friday 10 referees of the Belgian Basketball Federation attended the Referee Clinic given by Michael Newton (Technical Delegate Basketball) and Kris Cuppens (Unified Basketball Coordinator Belgium). The next day, during the Unified Tournament, these referees, together with 12 game officials, had their practical test on the court. There were 9 Unified teams that were participating in the Tournament, 7 male and 2 female teams. They were testing the new game time (4 times 6 minutes), which seemed to be harder than they were used to.
