By Suzanne Coogan

Mary Davis, Managing Director of Special Olympics Europe Eurasia addressing ISAPA 2013, Istanbul

The 19th International Symposium of Adapted Physical Activity(ISAPA) has concluded in Istanbul involving Special Olympics European staff and 350 university lecturers, researchers, NGOs and several organizations working with people with disabilities across all continents. ISAPA is held every second year to provide physical activity professionals with an opportunity to present new research, share knowledge and experience. The theme of 'Bridging the Gaps' for ISAPA 2013 reflected the objective to Bridge Gaps between research and practice; between families and communities; between people with and without a disability; between policies and practices; between countries and cultures. Mary Davis of Special Olympics delivered an excellent keynote address on challenges and solutions to bridging gaps in sport for people with disabilities. Mariusz Damentko and Mirek Krogulec conducted practical Special Olympics workshops and mini-symposiums for over 40 Turkish and international participants.
