Burkina-Faso Clinical Director Assists Special Olympics Italy

By Lauren Wyndham Quin

Since Special Olympics knows no boundaries, being abroad did not deter Dr. Edmond Gue from Burkina-Faso, from volunteering at a Healthy Athletes event. After hearing the news that Special Olympics Italy would be hosting their Summer Games in La Spezia in June, Dr. Gue (Health Promotion Clinical Director) immediately got in touch with Filippo Inversi (Regional Clinical Advisor, Europe-Eurasia) who had trained him in 2012, during the Special Olympics Unity Cup in South Africa. It did not take long for Dr. Gue to fit right in with the rest of the HP team, who were happy to have an opportunity to share the experience with a someone from another region. Even the athletes were surprised that there was a doctor all the way from Africa! The Special Olympics Italy Health Promotion team were delighted to host Dr. Gue and were grateful for his dedication and willingness to volunteer - at home and in Italy!
