Croatia athletes push their limits on wheels

By Maureen Rabbitt

With the Dalmatian sun shining on their helmets and a gentle breeze on their backs, 30 Special Olympics Croatia riders took part in a national cycling competition on 28-29 May 2013. Police secured State Road D1 so the circuit curled around the small picturesque town of Vrlika. Riders, aged 13 to 42 from nine centers throughout Croatia of all ability levels, competed in several events including the 1500 m road race. The town of Vrlika and 20 local volunteers supported the event while local performing artists provided light entertainment for the riders.
