David Beckham dons the jersey of a Special Olympics soccer club

By Andrea Zapata

The athletes were trilled to meet their hero and it will be a day they will never forget.

Global football icon David Beckham donned the amber and black of Cheshunt FC when he met up with the club’s Special Olympics East Herts team. The ex-England captain, who played for Man United, Real Madrid and AC Milan, posed with the players and coaches of the Special Olympics East Herts team. Team coach Clark Presland set up the surprise meeting at Golden Balls’ home in Sawbridgeworth. Maria Walker, from Cheshunt, said: “The players thought they were spending the day having team photos when all of a sudden David and Victoria Beckham appeared. “The players were overwhelmed and gave David a signed Cheshunt shirt which he put on straight away.” Ms Walker added: “David and Victoria were both fantastic. They posed for photos with the team, signed autographs and asked them lots of questions about the team." Cheshunt Special Olympics East Herts is for players with an intellectual disability and competes in the Herts FA Inclusive League.
