First Unified Camp Shriver in Israel

By Agnieszka Krukowska

At the very end, each camper received a certificate for his/her participation in the Camp Shriver experience.

Between July 7th - July 11th, Special Olympics Israel organized the first Unified Camp Shriver. 40 athletes and teammates from Ma’on Etgar (special school) and Bar Mitzvah (mainstream school) experienced the spirit of Unified Sports playing basketball, floorball, football and bocce together. “Every day I came back home with different experiences that excited me, and made me feel things I had never felt in my life. Each morning when we came they (organisers) waved to us from the windows and when we left they said they were already waiting for the next day, to see us again”. Chen Shaham, 13 years old. Final camp day took part in a recreational park in Herzliya with rope ladders, rope bridges, omegas, swings, slides, etc. The park was a new experience to all the campers. Participants were divided in pairs, one athlete and one partner. It was amazing to see how teammates supported the athletes and how well they all did the challenging activities.
