Franklin Towne Charter High School is Best Buddies Chapter of the Year

Franklin Towne Charter High School’s Best Buddies Chapter in the Philadelphia was named 2014 Chapter of the Year by Best Buddies Pennsylvania ( during our region’s Best Buddies Ball Saturday night. FTCHS Best Buddies created a fabulous video to “Spread the Word to End the Word” which is a campaign to end the use of the derogatory “R” word (retard, retarded) to label those with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The FTCHS Best Buddies Class Advisor is Karen Colon. You can find more information about their program and contact information on their webpage at the link below.

About Me:

Best Buddies at Franklin Towne Charter High School is a social club that focuses on building meaningful and lasting friendships between students with intellectual disabilities and students in the general education population. During club times we hold information sessions that help students learn about different physical and learning disabilities. After school activities include: Trivia games, Mummy Wrap games, relay races, team building exercises, and confidence booster activities.

Video:

Watch Video The Best Buddies Program at Franklin Towne Charter High School annually puts on a campaign to end the use of the "R" word. We made this film to make more people aware of the campaign, and to remind everybody that we are all equal no matter what.
