My brother Ronny

By Robert Lee

My brother Ronny was born with Down syndrome. He passed away in the year 2000. I needed a way to heal and honor his memory. As a child, my family wasn't involved with Special Olympics Michigan. I didn't know what to expect. From the first event I volunteered I knew I had found what I needed. The directors, coaches and all the participants were welcoming and so great full. I'm the one who's grateful. I see my brother in so many of the faces in these wonderful athletes. While I regret not being involved with my brother I have him in my heart and see him all around. Special Olympics Michigan has helped in ways that I can't explain. It's comforting to me to be involved with the SOMI family. I know I'm a better if a person because of it. Thank you, SOMI, for letting be a part of something so amazing and helping me heal.

About Robert Lee: I primarily volunteer to help with registration at various events. I sort of consider myself a coordinator for registration volunteers. I have a pool of friends/co-workers that help as well.
