Romania events show unlimited possibility of football social development

By Viorel Mocanu

Romanian Football Federation President Razvan Burleanu joins Special Olympics players during UEFA's Grassroots Day.

Over 2200 athletes and partners participated in 32 events organized by Special Olympics Romania during the Special Olympics European Football Week 2014. Events involved partnerships between Special Olympics Romania and sports universities, country football associations, country child protection agencies and local authorities. All of the events demonstrated the unlimited possibility of football social development, like the competition organized in Gura Humorului in northeastern Romania and involving seven teams with players from seven placement centers. UEFA Grassroots Day on 21 May 2014 in Bucharest was an occasion to confirm official recognition of Special Olympics football players as valuable members of the larger football family. President of the Romanian Football Federation Razvan Burleanu was on hand during the day to congratulate Special Olympics players.
