Georgia - Parent's joy as son takes part in Young Athletes programme.

By Anna Kutateladze

My name is Anna and I am from Tbilisi, Georgia. I want to tell you about my son George. My baby has Down syndrome, he is 3 years old. Gio as we call him, meaning love, is a nice and kind boy.

A new page opened in the history of our family with the birth of George. We have two other sons, Nick and Ika who are 13 and 8 years old. All of us adore George and he responds to us the same. However he also needs to have friends, and play with children of his age to gain knowledge of the outside world.

And that day came when George took part in Young Athletes. I was worried because I did not know how Gio would behave with the other children, before this time he was communicating only with his family.

But it was a miracle! My boy was happy, he enjoyed playing with the kids, did all of the activities, he even tried to please the girls!! George became more active, and he now has lots of new friends. He even teaches the activities to his older brothers at home.

Thank you Special Olympics!
