Special Olympics Botswana helps a Young Athlete’s vision

By Mr Ross Tebele

Special Olympics Botswana hosted a Young Athletes program in Francistown. During the event National Director Mr Ross Tebele noticed an athlete, 7 year old Jacob, struggling to catch a ball during the eye and hand coordination activity. This raised major concerns for the National Director, who immediately got a hold of Clinical Director Mr Olebele, who referred Jacob to local doctor in Francistown, Dr. Mahamadi. He assisted Jacob with an eye screening and prescribed corrective eyewear. Eye problems were the cause of Jacob's struggles and he no longer has problems catching the ball. His mother said, "I don’t know how to thank Special Olympics Botswana, I am over the moon and my son is so happy. I promise to look after the glasses. I have been worried because I couldn’t afford them and God bless Special Olympics on the great work.”
