On 14 July 2013, 44 Special Olympics Hellas athletes and 22 Unified partners from Athens, Chania and Halkida participated in the 23rd Canoe-Kayak championships. Organized by the National Canoe-Kayak Federation of Greece, and held in the famous Olympic Rowing Center near Athens (where the Athens 2011 Kayak event took place), the championship brought together Special Olympics athletes with Olympic and World class athletes to celebrate the 45th Anniversary of Special Olympics. Present at the event were the President of the Canoe-Kayak Federation Mr. Antonis Nikolopoulos and Special Olympics Hellas President Joanna Despotopoulou who, together with the new deputy Minister for Culture and Sports Mr. Yiannis Andrianos and the President of the Rowing Federation Mr. Yiannis Karras presented medals to all athletes, while parents, friends, coaches and volunteers cheered with enthusiasm and pride. Thank you Eunice for endowing the World with Special Olympics! Your legacy will guide us forever.
