Special Olympics Tennis Tournaments at the Tiberias Center

By Sophie Katz

On 19th March 2014, the ITC – Tiberias hosted a national Special Olympics tennis tournament. Over 50 athletes from 6 different Israel Tennis Centers (Tiberias, Kiryat Shmona, Akko, Jerusalem, Yokneam, Ramat Hasharon) travelled to the center to compete against each other. The athletes were divided in several different groups according to sex, age and tennis level. Each station was run by the children of the High Performance Program in Tiberias, who volunteered to help organize the event. At the end of the tournament, Shaya, hosted a lovely prize giving ceremony where all the participants received medals. It’s quite difficult to describe how excited each athlete was when they were called to collect their medals – their smiles were absolutely priceless. Kol Hakavod to Shaya for his tireless work with our Special Olympics athletes, and to Tal and his team for hosting us so wonderfully.
