Special Olympics celebrates World Down Syndrome Day

By Guisele Calderon

March 26, 2014 is a timely opportunity for the world to remember, and live according to the core principles of the first Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This afternoon we celebrated with Cascades Shopping Center and its sponsors an evening full of smiles and fun. The event began with dynamism where our honorees demonstrated their dancing talent, followed by a fun competition with their parents and people who joined us for this event. At the end, all were treated to refreshments. Undoubtedly, it was a special full of love, smiles, and fun celebration. The enthusiasm for life was contagious and unique and, from the shadow of pain and discrimination, we are proud to see how many Special Olympics athletes with Down Syndrome are finding their voices and advocating for justice in their communities and their countries.
