Special Smiles, Special School

By Enis Bellova

Volunteer dentists showed students at “Luigj Gurakuqi” special school in Tirana proper tooth-brushing techniques.

Students at “Luigj Gurakuqi” special school in Tirana, Albania had never had dentists come to their classroom before, so it was truly a special day when Special Olympics Albania offered its Special Smiles screenings during a one-day activity there in December. In addition to checking their teeth, Dr. Flora Zace along with her son, Endri, Dr. Oltian Bicaj, and nine other volunteers gave away toothbrushes and toothpaste to each student. The screenings were held as part of Basketball Week, when more than 120 athletes from the school as well as two area daily centers were gathered to compete in basketball, football and athletics.
