The Government of Botswana includes Special Olympics in its 2016 vision.

By Mr Ross Tebele

In January Special Olympics Botswana hosted an Opening Eyes screening for 32 athletes. The program reached out to the government for assistance and involvement, an invitation was extended to the Minister of Presidential Affairs and Public Service’s office and the Minister agreed to attend the event. During his speech at the screening he commended the program for its great work and also shared with the attendees Botswana’s’ statistics regarding eye care issues, and how Special Olympics Botswana is helping to overcome this issue. He said that this fell in line with the government’s 2016 strategy to tackle the issue. Other dignitaries present were Special Olympics Botswana sponsors, The Regent Insurance Company, the CEO of the Sports Council, and Special Olympics Botswana board members. The event was covered live on National TV, and was also covered by Ya Rona FM. Great work Special Olympics Bostwana!
