Tim Shriver Named a Health Equity Champion

By Karl Hejlik

Each quarter, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention honors an extraordianary individual who has worked to bring health care to otherwise marginalized populations. This summer, the agency named Special Olympics Chairman and CEO Timothy Shriver a Health Equity Champion. "The discourse of equity requires that we renegotiate how opportunities for health and wellbeing are structured educationally, politically, and socially. We are pleased to honor Dr. Timothy Shriver for his efforts to promote a policy and culture that understands, supports, and integrates people with disabilities in the workings of all aspects of our society," said Leandris Liburd, Associate Director for Minority Health and Health Equity at CDC.
