Kiera Byland, or “KB” as most call her, is an unstoppable force from northwest England. A multi-talented leader and athlete, Byland is making #inclusivehealth a priority in her community.
Since being trained as a Health Messenger, she has launched Fit 5 in England. Kiera represents Special Olympics Great Britain on the Special Olympics Europe Eurasia (SOEE) Athlete Input Council as Chair and on the Athlete Leadership Council as Vice Chair. Learning about Fit 5 during the SOEE Input Council, Kiera activated it upon her return to home. She designed and delivered a Fit 5 workshop to other Special Olympics athletes. She also designed, delivered and piloted a fitness workshop to primary school children.
KB, who competes internationally in cycling and regionally in swimming, is also a cycle and swim teacher and a volunteer Special Olympics coach. Her proudest athletic moment was when she earned three golds while competing at the 2015 Special Olympics World Games in Los Angeles. She also excels at leadership and notes her proudest moment in this area was serving as a co-host at the 2017 Special Olympics Great Britain National Summer Games’ opening ceremony.
Currently in school, Kiera hopes to one day start her own business to help people learn to cycle, swim and understand healthy lifestyles.
