Special Olympics Global Coalition for Inclusion
The Special Olympics Global Coalition for Inclusion is creating a world where individuals with intellectual disabilities are celebrated, respected, and fully integrated as valued members of their communities.
-
Who We Are
Comprised of governments, multilateral organizations, civil society, and the private sector, the Coalition advances educational and social inclusion to integrate students with ID more fully in their communities.
-
What We Do
The Coalition empowers members to expand inclusive education with Unified Schools® and Unified Sports®, a model using sport as a catalyst to foster cohesive classrooms and communities.
-
How We Do It
The Coalition facilitates multilateral collaboration and cross-sector public-private partnerships to finance inclusion programs, translating policies into practical, sustainable, and achievable actions at local schools and communities.
Students with ID are:
49%
More likely to have never attended school
43%
Less likely to have foundational reading and numeracy skills
2-3x
More likely to be bullied

In communities worldwide, many young people experience intense social and academic pressures at school, along with bullying and other harmful behaviors. Education systems often underserved and isolate those with intellectual disabilities (ID).
The Coalition aims to reach:

150,000 Unified Schools
Create 150,000 Unified Schools where inclusive sports and peer-to-peer mentoring are embedded in academic curricula for students of all abilities.

2,000,000 youth
Bring 2,000,000 youth with and without intellectual disabilities into Special Olympics programs at schools around the world.

40 nations
Scale the Global Coalition for Inclusion membership to reach 40 nations implementing Special Olympics’ inclusive education through sports programming.
