Dream Team Go! It’s a mantra that can be heard ringing through the rafters before every training session and at the start of every competition for Special Olympics Mongolia’s Floorball team; the country’s first all-women’s team.
The motto was created by team member Khulan Uyanga, 21, as a way to motivate the team toward achieving their goals. The team didn’t have a rallying cry and Khulan wanted to create something that inspired them every day. She approached her coaches with the idea and received a rousing “go for it!
“We came here to win and bring a medal home to Mongolia,” says Khulan, who thought for a long time about what the motto should portray. Supported by her teammates, she wanted to choose words that inspired them to achieve their goals. Dream Team Go! was a perfect fit.
Teammate Tserenchimeg Bayarmagnai, who has only been playing Floorball for 6 months, agrees as the phrase gets the entire team moving. As a defender, she loves the competitive side of the sport and that it keeps her fit and active.
As a new team for Mongolia, conditioning has been intense. Since September 2024, the team has been practicing four times per week; twice week running Floorball drills and twice a week cross fit training. According to Tserenchimeg, cross fit training has been especially important to increase the team's arm muscle strength.
“I didn’t expect it but the strength training has been very beneficial to improve the intensity of my passing and shooting abilities. She also practices deep breathing exercises before a game to calm her nerves. She advises friends to never give up and hopes to inspire other athletes to join Special Olympics. Outside of practice and games, Tserenchimeg enjoys hanging out with her teammates. She is also a National Capital City bocce champion and an avid painter, who loves to create works of art featuring birds and flowers.
Couch Galt Baasanjarga, the founder of CrossFit Nomads and a CrossFit Level 2 trainer and certified sports performance specialist level 2, joined Special Olympics in 2018. In April 2024, It was his vision to bring cross fit training to the newly established all-women’s team so that during the hot summer months in Mongolia the team could maintain their fitness.
He sums up the team with five words: Enthusiastic, dedicated, brave, funny, and unique—fitting attributes that embody the words Dream Team Go!
