It was a memorable day for Special Olympics Israel when Israel’s leading football club Maccabi Tel Aviv FC showed up to their match against FC Beitar Jerusalem wearing Special Olympics branded t-shirts.
Special Olympics Israel athlete Shlomi Gibli was given the main stage at the occasion when he was presented with the Foundation’s Medallion of Honor. Shlomi said, “I was very excited to receive the Maccabi Tel Aviv medal. They love me and all the athletes of Special Olympics. Did you hear how [much] applause they gave me? To be on the same field with the best players was a great honor for me.”
Maccabi Tel Aviv FC Foundation continues to promote greater inclusion and raise public awareness about those with intellectual disabilities through various athletic activities, competitions, unified matches as well as bi-weekly “Together as One” training sessions with Special Olympics' athletes at their centers.
