The Bond of Sisterhood

Man waving a Special Olympics Slovakia flag
Dominika waves the Special Olympics Slovakia flag at the Alpine Skiing medal ceremony.

Dominika Oravcova holds up a Special Olympics Slovakia flag at the alpine skiing medal ceremony, cheering loudly for her sister, Michaela, who has just won the bronze medal. As Michaela steps off the podium, the two sisters embrace, and tears of pride and joy stream down Dominika’s face. It is clear for all to see the bond between these sisters is unbreakable.

“Michaela is everything to me. She is my gold treasure,” Dominika says. She’s been by Michaela’s side every step of the way—helping her train, encouraging her through challenges, and cheering her on at every competition.

For Michaela, the bronze medal is more than a win, it’s the result of hard work, determination, and the support of her family. She will return to Slovakia not only as a medalist but as a hero for her community. Her jacket, which reads in gold, “Special Olympics Slovakia hero” says as much.

In that embrace, under the waving Slovak flag, the story of sisterhood, resilience, and unbreakable love is told—a story that will be remembered far beyond the slopes of the World Games.
