Aspiring young artists convened at Abu Dhabi’s arts and cultural center in Manarat Al Saadiya to learn and practice techniques used to create the geometric patterns of Islamic art. Led by acclaimed Emirati artist Jaber Alhaddad the workshop was the first of five Unified ArtsWorkshops leading up to the 2019 World Games in Abu Dhabi.
Titled “Music of the Spheres” the first workshop of the series promoted inclusivity, art, and culture in the United Arab Emirates community. Consisting of individuals with and without intellectual disabilities, the art workshop aims to push the initiative of inclusion beyond the realm of sports.
The 7 to 12-year-old artists used colored thread strung between numbered pins to form a geometric pattern with the Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi logo printed in the center. All of the artworks produced during the workshop series will be displayed at an Inclusive ArtExhibition at Manarat Al Saadiyat during the World Games, which will run from 16-28 March 2019.
