Lam Wai Kwan, Special Olympics Hong Kong athlete

Lam Wai Kwan

Lam Wai Kwan, also known as Cherry, became a Special Olympics Hong Kong athlete in 2013. She competes in the bocce and excels as a leader among the athletes.

Cherry has participated in different Special Olympics Hong Kong sports events, and she enjoys doing different workout exercises. She also learned to eat more healthy food to build up a healthy physique. She has become stronger and happier after a change in her daily habits in the training. In addition, she participated in Special Olympics Athlete Leadership training which improved her speaking and communication skills. The entire experience inspired her to become a Special Olympics Health Messenger to influence her peers.

As a Health Messenger, Cherry acts as an inclusive health ambassador to promote the message of health and inclusion. She shares health messages and demonstrates home exercises in workshops to show the importance of health to persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Cherry’s message to healthcare providers is that they should treat people with intellectual disabilities the same as others and listen to their needs with more patience.

She would like to learn more about photography, communication, and drawing to aid her in the future tasks ahead.
