As an active cycling athlete for 14 years, Reynaldo knows the advantages of belonging to Special Olympics. He is proud to have been working with Special Olympics World Games Berlin 2023 Local Organizing Committee since 2022. He is a great support to the Legacy Team, especially the Healthy Athletes® screening program and Unified Generations.
Reynaldo believes that like everyone else, people with disabilities deserve to have their needs considered and addressed. Thus, as a Health Messenger, it is very important to him that health professionals, teachers, caregivers, and families are taught how to treat people with intellectual disabilities and how to communicate in easy language. Reynaldo sees a huge lack of opportunities for these communities to learn how to deal with people with intellectual disabilities. He would be happy to reach out to health professionals and policymakers to present his own point of view and personal experiences. Reynaldo believes in self-advocacy and advocating for people with ID.
As health advice for everyday life, Reynaldo recommends avoiding unhealthy energy drinks or smoking in order to protect your own body.
Besides being a Health Messenger, Reynaldo represents the interests of the athletes as deputy athletes' speaker for Special Olympics Deutschland and as Vice-Chairman of the Athletes' Council of Special Olympics Berlin. When he is not spreading health messages, representing athletes, or cycling, Reynaldo likes to support his favorite club: Hertha BSC.
