Tyler Griswold (26) joined Special Olympics Kansas (SOKS) in 2014. In 2021, he developed a strong interest in health and helping other athletes to live healthy lives. He decided to become a Health Messenger.
Throughout his short three years as a Health Messenger, Griswold has adopted healthier habits, avoided sugary drinks, and focused on water and iced tea. He has not only learned to be healthier himself, but he has used his training to help benefit his fellow athletes. For him, talking to trainers and other athletes helped him work together with people more. He also encourages healthy conversations with fellow athletes, helping them make better choices. His ultimate goal is to make fitness and nutritious meals enjoyable for everyone.
In addition to educating fellow athletes, Griswold gets to talk to students, local government officials, doctors, nurses, and caregivers about intellectual and developmental disabilities. He answers many questions to aid in making their work inclusive to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
