Dallas Sorken is an athlete from Special Olympics Alberta Canada in the North America Region. Dallas participates in floor hockey. He has been involved in Special Olympics since 2000.
Dallas’s favorite parts about Special Olympics are that it is like a family, doing sports with others, as well as being out with your friends to have one goal.
Dallas is excited for the congress in Berlin. He is looking forward to learning about what other nations are doing with athlete leadership.
Dallas is employed as cashier at a grocery store. When Dallas isn’t working or competing, he enjoys collecting Wayne Gretzky memorabilia.
Dallas says that being an athlete leader means being a leader for other athletes and making a difference in the organization.
Project Description
Dallas’s grant plan is to create an “aging athletes committee” that will support athletes who are aging out of competition in taking on other meaningful roles within Special Olympics. The committee will consist of 5 athletes, and they will define the terms of reference for the group which will hold at least 2 meetings. The group will create new and meaningful leadership opportunities for athletes who can no longer compete at the level they used to.
