About the Project Leaders

Eunice Wanjumoe, a 22-year-old youth leader from Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, has been volunteering with Special Olympics Papua New Guinea (SOPNG) for the past year. She has contributed significantly to various programs and events, promoting social inclusion and awareness for people with intellectual disabilities. Eunice has been involved in sports competitions, health programs, and the Young Athletes Program, where she helps children develop motor skills, confidence, and social connections through sport. Her commitment to challenging stereotypes and fostering an inclusive environment drives her work with SOPNG. Eunice aims to inspire others to see the value of people with intellectual disabilities and to create a more inclusive society.

Annabelle Angori, a 16-year-old athlete leader from Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, is actively involved with Special Olympics Papua New Guinea (SOPNG). She competes as a unified football player and supports various projects as a youth leader. Annabelle's dedication to inclusion extends to the Young Athletes Program, where she helps children in special schools develop motor skills and social interaction through play. Driven by a desire to promote inclusion in her community, Annabelle inspires others to challenge stereotypes and see the value in everyone. Her goal is to create a society where people with intellectual disabilities are embraced, celebrated, and given opportunities. Through her leadership, Annabelle demonstrates that inclusion benefits everyone and fosters meaningful connections through sport and shared experiences.

About the Project

In many schools in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, students with intellectual disabilities often experience social isolation and have limited opportunities for meaningful interaction with their peers. To address this, Eunice and Annabelle recognized the need to raise awareness, challenge stereotypes, and foster inclusive environments where all students can collaborate, learn, and grow together.

Eunice and Annabelle plan to take four steps to tackle this issue in their community. First, they will launch a school-wide awareness campaign by using artworks from workshops that they organize to promote understanding of intellectual disabilities and encourage inclusion within their school. Following this, the youth leaders will arrange a series of Unified Art Workshops, allowing students with and without intellectual disabilities to work together on creating artwork that highlights themes of inclusion and diversity.

The art produced in these workshops will be showcased in a Public Art Exhibition, where the collaborative artists will present their creations and celebrate the students' achievements. This event will also provide a platform to spark discussions about inclusion. Finally, Eunice and Annabelle will conduct a reflection session with the students and staff involved to assess the project's impact and gather feedback for future initiatives. By engaging a broader audience in Unified Art, they aim to dismantle social barriers and cultivate an environment where everyone feels included and respected.
