Project Year

Through their project, Kamile and Povilas hope to inform and educate young people in their community on healthy eating habits.

About the Project Leaders

Kamile is 18 years old and lives in Lithuania. She has been part of Special Olympics for 6 years and became a Youth Leader more than 2 years ago. She loves inviting her friends to participate and become more active in Special Olympics.

Povilas is a 23-year-old Special Olympics athlete and began his journey in the Special Olympics movement more than 8 years ago. Povilas became a Youth Leader 2 years ago to show the world that people with intellectual disabilities can do anything they set their mind on and become a leader both as an athlete and beyond.

The Inspiration

During the start of the pandemic, Povilas and Kamile noticed that many of the Special Olympics athletes gained weight and became less physically active due to having to stay indoors during lockdown. This helped them to realize that many of their community members with intellectual disabilities do not have enough information on healthy nutrition and meal planning. Povilas and Kamile want to educate people on the importance of nutrition how to change bad habits.

The Plan

Through the Nutrition and Daily Meal Choice project, Kamile and Povilas hope to train people on forming healthy habits, improve daily meal choices and to become overall healthier. The Youth Leaders want to organize a 3-day camp that is themed around healthy eating and nutrition. They plan to create lessons on proper nutrition and a healthy eating tracking table with the help from a professional nutritionist. At the end of the camp, there will be a healthy eating challenge.

Project Goals

Kamile and Povilas’ goals include training 15-20 athletes and their families to understand the importance of long-lasting healthy eating habits and how it can help make positive improvements on a person’s overall health.
