Anas Khalil Al Zorba: From Athlete to Coach

Anas' story

Anas Khalil Al Zorba was once described by some as hyperactive with excessive movement. Then, he joined Special Olympics Palestine. Because of his sports training, the exercise and rules of game helped him control his energy and gain discipline. Not only did his skills and dedication improve his behavior, self-reliance and independence, but they also got him noticed by Special Olympics coaches and staff.

It became clear that Anas has the attributes of an Athlete Leader: he loves to help others (even if it is the opposing team), loves leadership roles and is able to communicate requirements to new athletes despite his speech difficulties.

Though Anas trains in football (soccer), athletics and cycling, he loves bocce most of all. Bocce is one of the most popular Special Olympic sports with almost 452,000 athletes competing in it globally in 2019.

After winning several local, national and international bocce competitions, he decided to become a Special Olympics Palestine bocce coach. Anas takes his new coaching responsibilities seriously and enjoys many aspects of the position. He particularly loves explaining sports rules to new athletes and putting the theories into practice.
