Sammy is partially verbal, and he doesn’t read or write. He is physically able to play sports, and he understands the rules and the instructions of his coach and team.

What should coaches know about working with individuals with autism?

Coaches should be very patient, and not get tired of teaching athletes and repeating instructions.

What stereotypes or misunderstandings about autism most frustrate you?

Teasing.

What do you most want people to understand about autism?

Autism is a condition and not a disease. Each individual is unique and different, even those without autism or intellectual disabilities.
