It was a moment to remember for Saudi Arabia as the women’s Bocce team took home its first-ever medal at Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019.
Saudi women have never participated in a World Games until now, with KSA sending 21 women to the UAE for the Games. The victories saw the whole team celebrate together, with each athlete buzzing with joy as they excitedly embraced each other. Shahad Sunbul (15), Wejdan Alsulami (19), Jana Albeshri (17) and Sara Ahmed Felemban (18) all played integral roles.
“It is an unbelievable feeling to have won our matches today,” said Sara. “We are all over the moon because this is a big moment for us and the entire Saudi Arabia country. We have worked really hard for the World Games and we have done so well today.”
Sara, featured in this ESPN piece, took home two silver medals and one bronze.
